Rector Bible’s Study

The Bible Study meets every Wednesday in the Library from 10:00 a.m.  to 11:30 a.m.  Led by Rector John E. Miller, each Bible study session focuses on the Lectionary readings assigned for the succeeding Sunday.  Members are encouraged to bring a Bible in a translation or version that they enjoy reading.  All members and friend are cordially invited to attend and participate.  While no prior biblical training is required of group members, an open mind and readiness to learn and share insights are always welcome!

 

Joseph Campbell:  The Power of Myth

Class will meet on Wednesdays, March 21, April 4, April 18, May 2, May 16 and May 30 from 11:00 to 12:30 p.m. in the Loft of the EducationBuilding. You will need a copy of the book The Power of Myth which we will read in conjunction with watching the video series of Bill Moyers interviewingCampbell. Study questions for the series are available at the Parish Office.

 

Exploring Prayer

Small Group: Wednesdays – 5:00-5:45pm – Ash Wednesday through Holy Week (Feb 22 – Apr 4) in Little St. Mary’s. We will meet once a week as a group for the profound experience of being in silent prayer with others and to briefly share reflections from the daily readings.

Lenten Program:  Encountering Islam

The Reverend William L. Sachs, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Center for Interfaith Reconciliation inRichmond,Virginia, is presenting a program designed to help Christians encounter and understand the Islamic tradition of faith. The Lenten study will convene in theEducationBuildingat 7:00 p.m.  Dr. Sachs’ topic March 21 will be Anglican-Islamic Relations. 

 

St. Mary’s Tours March 18 and 25

Join Senior Warden Eddie Goode and Rector John Miller on a tour of the St. Mary’s Churchyard.  The tour will gather at 10:10 a.m. near the sculpture of Little Mary Allen in the Sunday School courtyard of New St. Mary’s.  Newcomers and long-time members are invited to participate in this introduction to the history and lore connected with the St. Mary’s story.  Questions may be directed to Dr. Miller, 784-5678 or jmiller@stmarysgoochland.org.

 

World Pediatric Project Update

Merlik and Rosemary Cobbe arrived late Tuesday night to the heartfelt treats you all left for them in their welcome bags! They will be joining us for the 11am service this SUNDAY, MARCH 18th.  Please join us afterwards in the Parish Hall for coffee and goodies, and special song by our Children’s Choir. (If you are able to bring additional baked goods, please email Sara Reed at s.desvernine@att.net

thank you!!  Merlik and Rosemary do speak English, as well as their native creole French.


Next week, Merlik will have his heart procedure at 7am on TUESDAY, MARCH 20th at VCU.  This is also Merlik’s 9th birthday so we will celebrate with him when he is out of the hospital.
