Bill Gooch

Bill Gooch came to St, Mary’s in 1999 after moving to Richmond from Baltimore with his partner, Ralph Fisher. They were drawn to St. Mary’s strong sense of community and welcoming atmosphere. John Miller married them in December, 2015 as his last official act before retiring, and David May led Ralph’s burial services in January, 2023. Bill was on the vestry between 2012-2015, worked as treasurer in 2015, and served register for the parish in 2023-2024. He has been a long-time member of the followship committee working with the parish breakfasts as the “cinnamon roll guy” and heading up the bishop’s reception. Beginning this year, he will chair the endowment committee.

Bill works in the investment bank at J.P. Morgan as a supervisory analyst in the research department where he was a pioneer in telecommuting as he started in 2000 with the firm. Previously, he worked with BT Alex. Brown and Legg Mason in Baltimore, was a partner with J.C.Bradford in Nashville, and a managing director at Morgan Keegan in Memphis, now part of Raymond James. Bill is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds bachelor’s degrees from Rhodes College in Memphis and the MBA from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where he taught accountancy after graduation.
