The Rev. John E. Miller has been rector of St. Mary’s Church since 1984. Dr. Miller’s ministry here began in the late 1970s, when, as a graduate student, he led youth fellowship and educational programs for middle and high school students. Ordained deacon in 1981, and priest in 1982, he served as assistant rector for two years. Dr. Miller is a graduate of Washington and Lee University (B.A) and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia (M.Div., Th.M., & Ph.D.). He has been adjunct associate professor of religion at the University of Richmond, as well as adjunct instructor of theology at Virginia Union University. The Rev. Eleanor Lee Wellford, St. Mary's Associate Rector, has been a part of the professional staff since 2006, when she was ordained to the diaconate. Her vocational focus in our parish is on children and families, while she also shares preaching and liturgical ministries with her colleagues. A graduate of Hollins College (B.A.), Virginia Commonwealth University (M.B.A.), and Union Theological Seminary & Presbyterian School of Christian Education (M.Div.), Eleanor also did the Anglican Studies program at Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria. She was ordained priest in 2007, and she has also served as a chaplain at Westminster-Canterbury, Richmond. Eleanor and her husband Tenny are the parents of three children.
