Welcome to St. Mary's Church!
As Rector of our parish, I extend to you our most cordial greeting and invite you to partake of the many opportunities for worship, fellowship, Christian education, and outreach offered by our family of faith.
The beginnings of St. Mary’s Church can be traced to the Reconstruction period following the Civil War when a small, but enthusiastic group of Virginia Episcopalians recognized the need for a mission church in Goochland County. Their faith made possible the consecration of “Little St. Mary’s” in 1878. Even after 130 years, this remarkable Victorian building continues to embody the dynamic spirit of St. Mary's. Nearby, the magnificent "New St. Mary's," which was dedicated in 1992 and expanded in 2002, stands in this historical setting as a beautiful center for mission and ministry — a three-dimensional form of our renewed vision of fresh possibilities for the extension of love of God and our neighbors.
We hope that you will become a vital part of our exciting prospects for the future! We are grateful for your interest in our parish, and we invite you to share in the joys and responsibilities of Christian discipleship in this unique Episcopal Church. Our desire is that you will experience the full range of ministries that constitute our parish mission. Please know that the Vestry, clergy, and the people of St. Mary’s are always ready to respond to your suggestions and requests. All we ask is that you contact us in person or by telephoning the parish office.
Looking forward to sharing with you our St. Mary’s historic tradition of simplicity, warmth, and openness in a contemporary community of belief, I am
Faithfully yours,
John E. Miller
