St. Mary’s Seniors Host Community Activist Bob Argabright

January 15, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

$5.00

Some people may wonder what they’ll do with their retirement years: Bob Argabright is not one of them.

For almost ten years, after retiring as a leading executive at Chesapeake Corporation, he has been working fulltime as a volunteer, tutor and advocate at Oak Grove Elementary School in the Bellemeade community in South Richmond. His was a commitment that began with the Micah Initiative — connecting faith communities to Richmond Public Schools — but has grown into a transformative experience.

Bob, who has said that his activism “gives me a way to live my faith and share God’s love” will tell St. Mary’s Seniors of his involvement in the school and its community, an outreach that now extends to the greater environment of the Goode’s Creek watershed.

Recognized as ‘Mentor of the Year’ by both the Virginia Mentoring Partnership, and again by Family Lifeline, and ‘Volunteer of the Year’ by the Richmond City School Board, Bob is also the recipient of a Community Service Award from the Richmond City Council. He currently serves as lay person on the 3

rd District Legal Review Board, and is a member of the boards of Micah, Community Advisory Group of Oak Grove-Bellemeade, Ground Works RV and the advisory board of Westview-on-the-James.

Although St. Mary’s Seniors usually meet on the second Wednesday of each month, this meeting will be held on January 15 to accommodate our speaker. We gather at forenoon, lunch is served at 12:15 pm. The speaker begins at 12:45 and we promise you may depart by 2 pm after ample time for questions.

All members of St. Mary’s are invited to attend, especially those juniors who are only postulants to the order of seniority. Please call the church office at 804-784-5678 for a lunch reservation which helps so much in our meal planning. Suggested donation is $5. We look forward to seeing you.
